According to a research conducted by MobileWalla, the number of apps available for Apple, Android, BlackBerry and Windows Smartphones would surpass the “big million” milestone in coming days.

Currently the number is resting at 989,476 with around 2,000 apps added to it every single day. If you do the math, this number would surpass the 1 million mark in 5-6 days.
According to analytics put forward by App Discovery Engine there was a major increase in number of apps in past 12 months. App count of Apple Store increased from 338,000 to 589,148 apps while the same for Android increased  115,000 to 319,774.
It seems MobileWalla didn’t counted the number of apps available for Symbian Smartphones. Had they done that, the number would have crossed the 1 million mark already.
Following is the number of apps and their share available for present Smartphone users:-

  1. Apple – 590,138 (59.95%)
  2. Android – 320,315 (32.54%)
  3. BlackBerry – 43, 544 (4.42%)
  4. Windows – 35, 479 (3.60%)

Late Steve Jobs may have been a little skeptical about app-based environment for iProducts but since the introduction of App Store for iOS devices in July 2008, everything changed. In past three and a half years, the industry of Smartphone apps have boomed and some companies have earned millions, even billions from this app-based cloud for Smartphones.
Companies like Rovio (the guys behind Angry Birds), Tapulous (the guys behind Tap Tap Revenge), Halfbrick Games (JetPack Joyride) and EA Games have gained a lot money by selling casual, sports and action games on various App Stores.
